Define Model Attributes

Adding mine planning attributes to the input reserves model

Define Model Attributes

To access this task:

  • Activate the Reserves ribbon and select Model | Attributes then select the Attributes tab.

Studio OP uses mine planning block models to evaluate the mining block reserves and assign the blocks with attributes such as tonnes and grades. This enables the blocks to be scheduled. Planning models are added to a Studio OP project and assigned to pits using the Define Planning Model task.

Using the Model Attributes task, fields in the block model can be carried across to the mining blocks when they are evaluated. It is sometimes useful to be able to edit and set attributes in the block model prior to evaluation, for example to set mining domains.

The Define Attributes tab is one part of the Model Attributes task. It can be used to set up either an explicit value or an expression that will derive values from the model and calculate the resulting field values using the EXTRA process directly. You can also use this panel to select an existing model attribute that you may wish to update.

These values will apply to the full model if no filter is specified (on the following Values tab), otherwise the value will be applied to all records passing a specific data filter.

The general process for using this panel is:

  1. Select the model that will contain the new attribute(s).
  2. Define the new attribute, or select an attribute that already exists within the model to update (if you do this, you cannot change the Type, so this field will be read-only).
  3. Define how it will be used in reserves calculations.
  4. Once you have configured your attribute(s), click Save to update the OP database.
  5. Move to the Values panel to define the actual values of the attribute.

Create a new attribute using New. Attributes will be applied to the model with values when a Run is performed on the Values tab. Model attributes, once defined, are only available for selection using the Model Attributes task.

You can Delete any selected attribute and it will be removed from the input model when you Save or Save and Close the task.

Once a new table row is added, define your attribute using the following properties:

  • Name: select an existing numeric or alphanumeric attribute that already exists in the model, providing it is not a system field - or - create a new attribute by typing a new field name (<24 characters allowed).

If you select an existing field, you cannot change its Type, but you can update its values.
  • Type: for new attributes, select either [Numeric] or [Alphanumeric]. For existing selected fields, this is read-only and will show the current attribute type.
  • Length: for alphanumeric fields, you can set the length (permitted characters) for the attribute values. If a numeric field, this field is read-only.
  • Evaluate: choose how the values of the attribute will be handled during reserves calculation:
    • For Alphanumeric values, choose [Dominant] or [Ignore]. If ignored, the field will not be reported.
    • For Numeric values, you can choose for your value to be [Additive], [Weighted] (in which case, you will need to choose a weighting field), [Dominant] or [Ignore].
  • Weight: only relevant if a [Weighted] Evaluate type has been chosen (see above). You can weight against [Mass] or [Volume], or you can choose to weight against any other numerical field in the input model.
  • Description: describe your attribute. Tip: describe how it is used in the reserves calculation process.
